| East Mids Meet - 26/02/08 |
Event Type: LocalPosted by Nick Goodall on Wednesday, 27th February 2008

What a turnout for a cold February evening!
With 9 TT's in all coming out for the evening and 16 people sat around 3 tables pushed together I think we had the best attended East Mids meet to date! With an almost 50/50 split of new and old faces it made for interesting conversation all evening.
Thanks to all who came, hope to see you at the next one.

The First South Wales Meet of the year
Despite the winter weather i wanted to get the South Wales area meets off to a start. Off West this time to the beautiful Gower Peninsular, a superb coastal area with a great, dramatic coastline. Always an attraction in the summer and hopefully a a great day out for the local TT'ers even in Febuary.
With a months notice and one eye on the weather the Febuary meet grew closer, interest and enthusiasm was building and the day was apon us.
An early start and and a crisp - 5 night meant a heavy frost. MattyR's car was white with frost as he got it prepared for the day ahead.
Us eastern based folks met up at J33 Services on the M4, a chilly but dry day unfolded as we gathered around our cars, welcomed some new folks and discussed the day ahead and all things TT.
A brisk jaunt down the M4 to Swansea where we met up with a few more TT's, what a site as a line of TT' s entered the carpark of Swansea Audi!
With the local knowlage of Emyr (AKA Major Problem) we had a coastal route planned. In convoy we set off towards our first destination, Bracelet Bay taking us past the locally famous Mumbles Mile, a local area abundant with pubs on a mile long section of the main road!
With sunny skies and clear views we took in the breathtaking views and of course the inmpressive view of a long line of TT's in the car park.
Hot drinks consumed and off along some open country roads to our next stop Rhossili, a cliff top site with fantastic coastal views and a causway accross to a couple of Islands ony accessable at low tide.
It was great to park the TT's up and take some photographs without wading through mud. A short drive to the King Arthur next to satisfy the appeties built up by all the fresh air and enthusiasm. A hidden treasure with a great menu, home cooked food at great prices, i am sure we will be back!
Another great South Wales meet made possible by all who attended.

Obviously the TT owners from Bristol are very keen, even on the a Bank Holiday Monday evening, so when I arrived 15 minutes “early” at the meeting point there were 9 TTs already there. I felt a little guilty not being the first there but I had just driven the first leg of our route in reverse to check there wasn’t anything blocking the narrow roads. After handing out route instructions and a bit of introduction, chit-chat and photos, the 10 TTs headed off in formation and on time.
The first part of our cruise involved travelling down some rather narrow country lanes through the picturesque villages of Butcombe and Blagdon. Leading a formation of 10 cars was quite a trick down these sorts of roads especially when meeting traffic coming the other way (thanks to those cars who had to wait for us to pass – your patience was very much appreciated!). The route then went up the twisty road through Burrington Combe before a short stop in a lay-by at the top to make sure we still had everyone. Then it was across the Mendips at speed before making our way down Cheddar Gorge. The road surface in the Gorge itself is excellent and the corners are great fun. Just before we reached Cheddar itself we parked up in a car park for some photos and more discussion.
After a 30min pause, and some interesting looks from climbers and tourists we returned to our cars (in a LeMans style running start) and headed back up the Gorge to our final destination, the Blue Bowl pub in West Harptree. Some of the attendees had some long homeward journeys so couldn’t stay for the meal but those of us that did were treated to some splendid food. Discussions obviously included TTs, modifications and the upcoming TTOC national event at Donington. I did my best to encourage people to try out some of the track sessions so hopefully there was some regional representation on the circuit on the 1st of July. All in all it was a great event with the rain holding off until we were safely in the pub, and I’m really looking forward to organising the next one for later in the summer.

Well thanks to Roger and Steve for coming along today. Also to Craig for coming for the half hour chat at the start, and also to Jane for the same at Sleaford. Shame those two couldn't make the actual cruise as it was a blast!
To say how sunny it was this morning it was quite suprising at how different it was in Skegness. We literally saw the "Welcome to Skegness" sign on the roadside and the fog came cown within a few minutes! So strange.
We ended up staying just under 2 hours having a wander and the promised fish and chips. (Note to self: don't have the large chips, sausage, and beans again. It's very large ) We did have a stoll down the sea front, but due to the mist we couldn't even see the water from the top of the beach. Eventually from the end of the pier we did see the sea itself although the wind made us come back down rather quickley.
The cruise back was also in wonderful sunshine, well it was literally 5 miles outside Skegness anyway. Roger took the lead and took us back down some new roads which my satnav did not have and ketp telling me to turn round. We ended up with a nice blast through Tuxford and back to the Snipe where we have started eariler that morning.
We stopped for an hour in the pub for a few drinks and a spot of food, although I was still rather full from lunch A quick vag-com for Steve later and we decided to go for a quick demo of my car. Half way back up the road it went pop, as it seems to do everytime I try and show it off. We limped back the half mile to the pub to find the pipe blown off the top end of the charge pipe. Screwdriver out of the boot and within 5 mins it was all fixed again
Anyway, thanks again for those who came, and to those who didn't you missed a very good day out!

Wet and Windy in South Wales, but a good meet despite the damp conditions.
A BIG thank you to all who came from near and far and made this meet a good one. Good to see some familiar faces and some new ones as well, hopefully we will be blessed with some better weather for the next one

After finding Emmamac in the sea of umbrellas, who organised the thread and a quick hello stretch of the legs we decided to head off.. The first problem was trying to get 20 cars out of the car park at the same time. (Sorry Dani and Phil) But after creating an impromptu lay by on the side of the road while I made a dash back to find the last few from the car park we were away. Through a little village, slowly climbing up, all of a sudden the mist came down, cant see and relying on the sat nav — disaster around the corner????
Eventually the roads widened slightly and we attain normal pace through the lovely Welsh countryside, the PMR radios come in to a league of there own as we all revel in banter between Nem and Lottie.
The rain eased off slightly as we near the lunch stop, the pub appears on the right and its time to invade by numbers. After squeezing everyone onto the car park it’s in for some food, now this is going to be fun on this scale.
After lunch we were ready to head off again, sadly losing a few who had travelled far but there was still a TT force to be reckoned with. The route was to take us on a little round trip ending up at the Pedrosa café on the horseshoe pass. The café appeared after a stunning drive so in for a quick drink before the a classic photo opportunity.
Off again on the road down to Llangollen to have a last stop before we all went our own way. At the riverside we stare in awe at the raging river while we took our last few photos of this classic day out (in the rain).
Thanks again to all that came along and tolerated me (and my sat nav) for the day, with a special thanks to emmamac who made all this possible. This was one of the best fun days I have had in my TT, not for any other reason than great company.

Braving the cold and rain, and recovring from christmas, 6 cars made the journey to the Snipe.
A 2 hour cruise passing through Chatsworth Hall and Matlock was great fun indeed even though the rain started not long after we started.

Had a most excellent joint meet last night at The George in the Tree in Balsall Common....total of 13 attendees including some new faces so my nagging is paying off of local TTers!! Big thanks very much to all who attended especially as some made quite a trek from the West and East Mids regions!
Particular highlights would have to be TThriller attempting to get into the wrong car... : (easily done, easily done...... ), Nem's introduction to the effect of a Haldex controller (nice one but I fear more trips to APS for the qS....), TTLaw's white TT - by god its lovely in the flesh, works so well....and HUGE puddings!!!
Cheers for the beep on lock too Nem, nice one and good to see a fault free scan as well! nutts, thanks for the nice little drive home too, impromptu mini cruise!
Great meet everyone, thanks once again.
Heres to the next one!
