On Sunday I had the opportunity to use my neighbours four point lift and since the haldex oil and filter were due decided this would be the best time to tackle this job as I’d not done this job myself and I know that access is tricky even with the special filter spanner.
At the same time I also replaced the rear diff oil as the TT is coming up to 17 years old and nearly 112000 miles. The drain plug on the rear diff is magnetic and only had a small amount of fine particles on it which for 17 years I’m sure is more than acceptable.
Also changed the engine oil and filter and reset the service indicator so all good for another 12 months.

Thanks David, a long way off being anywhere near to your own project but you have encouraged me to tackle jobs that perhaps I would have thought twice about.

Yes, the decal for the fuel flap was the missing piece I needed to complete that job, much appreciated.

Another little project that I have been working on, a few weeks ago I picked up a second hand pair of roof rails in Glacier Blue. They have a few areas of corrosion which is quite common, even the new one I fitted three years ago has the first small signs of corrosion but I thought with these I would strip them back and try to provide as best as possible some corrosion prevention treatment then prime and paint.
I removed the rubber seals and inserts and started the paint removal process.

Two weeks ago I started the process of reinstalling my track control arms which I’d previously removed to clean up and have the Cookbots fitted, followed by painting with some Eastwoods extreme chassis satin black. At the same time I was determined to replace the steering track rod ends as a four wheel alignment would definitely be required and would finally resolve the issue I’ve had with the steering wheel being a little bit right hand down when driving straight.
I had previously tried to slacken off the lock nuts on the track rod ends but they were seriously corroded and new it was not going to be straight forward.
At the same time I decided to remove the front bumper cover and get it resprayed as it had lots of small stone chips and some large scuff marks on the bottom.
The headlight washer system was removed and front and lower grills, along with any clip nuts.

Several days were spent soaking the track rod end lock nuts with penetrating fluid and after four days I finally managed to loosen the drivers side lock nut and much to my relief the track rod end itself was free to unwind from the tie rod.
Unfortunately the passenger side was a different story and although I managed to eventually back off the lock nut, the track rod end just didn’t want to move, even with the application of heat it just would not move.
So after asking some questions online I decided to go ahead and cut it off, using a dremmel to carefully make 2 cuts along the length of the threaded portion 180 degrees apart, cutting off the ball joint and then using a chisel to split the two halves apart.
