After scuttle panel removal, this what was underneath! Time for some elbow grease now.

After a bit of time enjoying myself, funny how all them years ago (1971) polishing and BS as an RAF apprentice was thought of as cruelty!

Another day, but more BS and polishing on the bonnet catch. Forgot to take photos!

Good old Brasso took all remnants of old gasket off and no worries of damaging gasket face.

I decided to buy the cam cover gaskets from GSF Carparts, as this item had same part number as OEM part (thanks The Parrott Bros for showing me 7Zap). Silicone also from GSF, reasoning thus :- if Einhell make the gasket, then their silicone should be the dogs doo dahs! Hope to get them fitted tomorrow, then wait and see!
Anybody got any experience of these items?

Replaced the cam cover and silicone yesterday, then refitted all wiring and pipework. Started engine and waited for it to warm up, lots of oily smelling smoke from rear of engine bay, suspect oil from cam cover whilst removing it. Allowing engine to get to working temp and burning old oil off, will tell me if the new gasket has sealed. Today I fired Silver Arrow up with apprehension, waited for temperature to get to 90 and whilst doing so, no oily smoke and no oily smell from rear of engine bay. I'm now feeling satisfied that the cam cover oil leak is fixed, a good trip on the road is required, just to confirm all is repaired.
I'm now seriously thinking of putting Silver Arrow back on the road for August.
Corona virus has stolen enough of our fun and enjoyment :)

Your welcome....I do think it’s good to get some feedback, feels all the more worthwhile. I wasn’t in the RAF but did my apprenticeship with British Airways mid 70’s.

Done an oil and filter change yesterday and taken out insurance from 1st August, as I’m putting Silver Arrow back on the road!
Again I’ve used Millers oil and Mahle filter, with 10% TTOC discount, good prices too from Opie Oils.
I decided that as there was enough good weather coming up that it was time to get back on the road! A good wash and polish up over the next couple of days, before we set off again.......
Earlier today I found out that I need to attend hospital for a procedure next Wednesday and have to self isolate now!!!!
“The best laid schemes o’ mice an’ men, Gang aft a-gley” to quote one of my heroes, Rabbie Burns.
It will just be better getting back on the road
