A recent trip to a rather damp Scotland meant that the car brought home some unwanted souvenirs. I think it's the wettest trip I've been on since Galway - thought we'd strayed into a river on more than one occasion. :)

Only just got round to cleaning up the wheels, calipers etc. Quite a few tar spots to get rid of, wheels polished and waxed inside and out and the wheel arch liners given a good scrubbing.

Does anyone else find the liners on the Mk2 difficult to clean? Grass, bits of leaves etc seem to cling to the liner the the proverbial to a blanket.

Today was TTRS TLC day.
There are some simple things that are not on the Audi service schedule but which I think are worth doing.

Changed fuel filter. I cut the old filter open and it was spotless, which is nice. Peace of mind for a few pounds.
Changed gearbox oil.
Changed rear diff and bevel box oils.
Removed bonnet release handle and bracket to check for signs of imminent breakage (none).
Fitted ty-wraps to the bonnet cable splitter box so it cannot pop open and disconnect the cables.
Tied some nylon cord to the cables in front of the splitter box and secured the end above the front of the wheel arch liner (for Justin).
Washed its bottom, left to drip dry in the sun.

Tomorrow I just have to replace the (polished) engine undertrays and then contemplate removing the bumper to evict the dead insects from the radiators and intercooler. :)

Service and MoT day for the RS today.

No issues and the MoT was a formality. Even with discount, smiley faces, coffee and a Mk3 diesel TT as a courtesy car it's still expensive at Audi and on a six year old car I'm not sure how long it's worth the yearly wallet wincing.
There's nothing in a standard service that I can't do myself.

After having the new windscreen fitted, I was able to complete the front & rear dash cam installation.
Image

I have the Power Magic unit to go with the Blackvue camera and wanted it to be hidden but accessible. It has a switch so you can choose whether or not it records when the car is parked. I'll only want that facility occasionally and certainly not in the garage. I put it in the glove box.
Image

That meant feeding a cable across to the area behind the fuse box and fitting a 5 pin plug/socket so that glove box removal wasn't made awkward.
Image

There are a number of fuse positions that have a supply terminal fitted but there's no load terminal. By using repair wires I added those missing load terminals to 5 fuse positions. That meant unbolting the fuse box so I could turn it for access to unlock the pink pin retainer. Two fuses were used for the camera supplies, one for the exhaust flap, leaving two spares.
Before: showing the existing piggy back fuse holder and the camera feed cable hanging down from the A pillar

After: Looks more or less OEM

Lastly, a reminder of what each new fuse feeds.

I've finally got around to a rather big mod to the RS - I've changed the gearbox to the 7 speed S-Tronic one. :D
