Good evening, all!
My first post in the fora, and it is NOT what I wanted to have to post…!
A few months back, I started up my beloved 51 plate TT Quattro 1.8T (Ava…long story!), only for a horrible rattling sound to come from the engine – at the back, near the bulkhead. I thought – when the RAC started her to assess the problem – I noticed a little smoke coming from that area, too…
Long story short: RAC recommended repairer has been unable to fully diagnose the fault, and has recommended engine replacement…but they can’t find a reconditioned unit! They are about to quote me for reconditioning the 103k engine in my beloved Ava…
Do any of you other wonderful TT owners know where I might find a reconditioned BAM engine, or should I bite the bullet and consign Ava to the parts/salvage system?
Wishing all of you and yours health, wealth, and happiness in 2022,
Mike C.

Is it worth getting it to somewhere like the TT Shop or quattrotech ? So someone that knows Audis inside out can diagnose it? I don't know what it is , have a new engine seems a little strange to me.
Thank you all. Alas, Ava is not drivable (RAC recommended towing to recommended garage; health issues then meant MoT expired before I could have her towed, so had to have her lifted, instead)… I’ll fire off a couple of emails – but the VAG dealership in Slough recommended over £3k work when I took her in for a new driver’s door lock!

You can't tow a TT so I wouldn't put much faith in their diagnosis
