Not a lot been happening, other than using the Silver Arrow and enjoying it, still able to have the top down, need to wear a scarf and hat now. Heated seats and heating system are both proving worthwhile.
Having found out that there are headlight washers fitted, how do they work - read manual and find no squirt at headlights. Is it pump or aliens? Easy stuff first, get into washer bottle and take it out. What’s that bright blue gunge in the bottom? Wash it all out and clean it all up. Check pump with ohmmeter, couple of ohms showing, so should work. Refit it all and check, N/S nothing, O/S lots of water, but not in correct direction. Pull alien out, only one jet fitted. Plan now is to take front bumper etc off and check pipework is clear of any gunge, then try aliens both sides to confirm serviceability.
Taking Silver Arrow to my local trusted garage for a pre MOT check on Monday, this will then highlight any issues, giving me time to rectify before actual MOT is due in March.

Follow on from pre MOT, as presented all good! After replacing Aliens, last Friday, 20 December actually got water on headlights. Suspect it was a case of getting the pipe work primed, but now all working. Pre MOT said, due to age of car, Aliens operation not a testable item! Still enjoying driving my Silver Arrow, in all weather.

What’s been going on? MOT test needed F/N/S lower wishbone replacement, rear bush had collapsed! Had my friendly local garage do it, while we were off to celebrate 25 years married, just before “lockdown”. I’d had a large stone hit the screen, big chip left of centre, MOT advisory. Front discs, advisory and rear flexi pipes advisory, so couple of jobs to be done now it’s warmed up a bit. All parts available on line, so no problems with spares.
As the Silver Arrow lives outside all the time, I’d found water in the number plate lights. I’d put some mastic underneath the spoiler washers, (thanks Yellow_TT) but still the wet stuff got in! Today I decided to take the spoiler off, . This was much more aggravating than anticipated, but after using string, tywraps, thin locking wire to cut through the compound it’s off. Suspect both middle bolts to be the culprits, bit of metal moth around both holes. It also looks like the spoiler has been off before, why? Research now needed for refitting compound, after further research into water entrance!

After looking at top of boot lid and underneath of spoiler, my thoughts are thus: no sealing compound used round middle two securing bolts and both plastic locating plugs, fibrous “sealing foam” used along top and bottom edges of spoiler. Also, both middle securing bolts were insecure, circlip on one turned to rust dust, other snapped when trying to refit, using circlip pliers. I suspect water ingress via plastic locating plugs (as I was unaware of their existence) after I’d used Yellow_TT’s knowledge. Couldn’t have properly sealed them anyway! Access unavailable.
Bit of research undertook and found a polyurethane adhesive on a “tall” internet selling service, reviewed by a USA colleague, “fitted my Audi TT spoiler with this perfectly”, so, couple of tubes ordered and I will then run a bead all the way round ALL holes and along the upper edge, round the corners and along the bottom, leaving a gap in the middle. That way I think it should give me a watertight boot!
I’ll put up a couple of photos of the nifty middle brackets and how I sorted them, tomorrow.

Last night there had been some rain, feeling confident I checked number plate lights, no water visible, checked inside boot lid also no visible condensation.
This is the end of my first year of TT ownership, so both Tax and Insurance due, end of the month. Due to the current Coronavirus restrictions, I have decided to SORN Silver Arrow from next month, until times permit full usage. Usual storage conditions will be effected:- increased tyre pressures, good wash and polish/wax, fit temporary cover over soft top, battery trickle charge, air con run monthly for 15 minutes.

I found a small water ingress at O/S of rear window. After cleaning out the area with a solution of Milton and letting it all dry, I used the Tiger Seal from the outside and used various “bits” to keep it all secure whilst padding out from inside also (should have taken a photo). After overnight setting, I then used Tiger Seal on the inside to re-attach the webbing, padding again to keep it all tight whilst setting. Really pleased with end result, but will it be waterproof? Thankfully, it has rained since my repair and glad to say, it all works well.
Can’t wait to get back on the road with Silver Arrow!
