Picking up today where I left off on the 11th, where I began the process of removing the starter motor which I soon realised is not a quick job.
So today was car up on axle stands placed on the forward section of the front chassis rails, engine undertray off and the left and right side panels, the left side having an attachment point for the power steering cooler pipes. And also requires removal of the headlight level sensor and bracket.Once removed access to the power steering pressure pipe attachments to the gearbox are a lot better.

Last night I had an opportunity to remove the cross over pipe that connects the two SMIC’s on a standard 225 intercooler setup.

And this morning I removed the power steering pressure line from the pump to the steering rack and the power steering cooler pipe that is supported on the intercooler crossover pipe that I removed last night.
The starter motor attachment bolts are now very accessible, however they are tight as they are also two of the gearbox attachment bolts.

The removed power steering pipes, the cooling pipe was installed 3 years ago and is one of the few items that hasn’t started corroding within 6 to 12 months like most parts that I have replaced. The pressure pipe I will clean up and see how it looks although I do have a new one if needed.

More progress today cracked all the drive shaft to gearbox flange M10 spline bolts, left them loose for now.

And also removed the subframe……..3/4” drive breaker bar proved it’s worth. Having replaced this a couple of years ago everything came apart really well, still amazed at how quickly bolts begin to corrode.

A couple of other bits removed on Saturday, the heat shield above the right hand drive shaft and the metal bracket that supports the transfer box (bolts to transfer box and engine block).

Three bi hex bolts removed securing the propshaft to the transfer box this afternoon and shaft moved rearwards as far as it would go, just about clears the pin coming out of the transfer box. Hopefully when the engine support is on and taking the weight of the engine and gearbox it will move slightly forward and provide some more clearance.

Thank you……I’ve almost gone as far as I can go for now, waiting on a transmission jack to arrive sometime in August and also off to Lincoln for a few days 1st weekend in August.
Hope you feel better soon.
