Just a couple of service items done in the last few days. Haldex oil and filter replaced and brake fluid changed.

So towards the end of last year I tackled some minor corrosion and resprayed the rear wheel wells. This August I tackled the front and since removal of the front shock absorbers to give better access also provided the opportunity to change out my Bilstein B14’s for some B16’s.

Recently had the drivers door window not dropping when opening the door which is not uncommon on the TT. Initially tried the thin strip of plastic from a butter container which did allow the window to drop but unfortunately with the door closed the switch was still being made and the window didn’t go up.
Since I had heard about this problem some time ago I had already acquired a LH and RH replacement switch as a just in case.

The replacement switch was installed and all is now good once again.

So, after much deliberation I have decided to remove the gearbox and send it away for a strip and rebuild. This is something that I have been considering for a couple of years but have finally decided to bite the bullet and just do it. Well that’s the plan anyway!!
Conscious of the fact it has done nearly 120,000 miles and the potential issue of the 1st/2nd gear selector fork attachment fasteners shearing now is the time before I talk myself out of it.

Plan is to take it slowly and probably remove more parts than I need in an attempt to provide as much access as possible and also to tidy up some bits along the way… I’ll also take as many photos as I can as a possible guide for others and a reminder for me when the time comes to put it all back together..

With this in mind I made a start Monday (10th July) with the removal of the battery, battery tray, air filter and heat shield and maf sensor.

After this the selector cables were detached along with the bracket and for now moved to one side.

Thank you, as I say it will be done as time permits and around my shift pattern but I’ll update as I go.
