What a good day! Silver Arrow now passed MOT today, this is first time in my ownership with no advisory’s. I supplied the cam chain tensioner and audi-specialists in Burwell, Cambs fitted it. 4 new Uniroyal tyres and some “lugs” removed from battery (same battery since my ownership) to allow correct fitment in carrier.
As Silver Arrow has not been washed for over 3 months now, I’m ashamed to post a photo and of course it’s now raining!! Silver Arrow will be back on the road from March 1st 2023, she feels a different car on the move now with good tyres all round and no EML to distract me.

Oil and filter change yesterday, ready for Spring! Washed and cleaned away 3 months worth of dirt what a great feeling! Dressed all tyres after new boots, what a drag cleaning off the goo used to fit the tyres. Tried some Turtle Wax wax on the boot, bonnet and headlamps, to see how it fares, easy enough to apply by hand. Wait and see how it goes now. I’m going back for annual refresher training on the boat at Wicken Fen tomorrow, so had to get car cleaned.

Good job………always think it’s quite satisfying when you do an oil and filter change.

Been keeping battery trickle charged whilst off the road, aware that battery was 5 years old! Had to call recovery 2 weeks ago, no start!!! Away from home…….. He said battery FOOBARED AND NO CHARGE FROM ALTERNATOR. Oh well, at least I’ll get home now, WRONG! Ran out of volts half way home……….cold, raining, snowing and dark. Call lady wife to come and get me, left TT as it was off main road and shielded by trees. Checked Halfrauds for replacement battery, in stock closes at 20:00, had my dinner and asked lady wife to take me back to TT. It was even colder, darker, more sleet and wind, lovely! Old battery out, new battery IN and off we went, using minimal lights, de mister etc and home, lady wife back 15 minutes later, same road.
Fitted voltage regulator (from AUTODOC, TPS don’t stock Bosch one anymore) and thought about Aux Drive Belt later. GSF supplied belt, all refitted and voltage checks done, (before off stands) 13.1V static and 14.6V charging. Off stands and out for trial run, great to be back on the road again.
Original regulator made in UK, replacement made in China for German company, how times have changed.

Fitted engine bay dress up kit, stainless steel washers and bolts in slam panels, engine, battery and coolant covers. Stainless domed nuts and washers on suspension strut top mounts. Reused two stainless bolts from original slam panel bolts in panel in front of engine intake manifold. Start of preparation for going to Shuttleworth this coming Sunday. Not looking good weather wise to wash and clean Silver Arrow before then, but I I’ve in hope!

Had an enjoyable trip to and from Shuttleworth Museum today. Round trip of 110 miles, with average mpg of 30.2, which included some “spirited” driving on local roads I know and a bit on A14/A1. This was my first trip of any distance and it was just marvellous getting Silver Arrow out and about again. Roof was down all day too, bit chilly at 09:15, but warmed up nicely for return trip.

This warm weather spurred me on to try and do some repairs to engine undertray, it’s been a flappy thing when off the car. The rearmost fixing holes had a split between them and I held it together with a couple of tywraps and 4 holes.
I decided to try using my soldering iron to “weld” along the crack lengths and melt some black tywraps to fill the holes. Very pleased with the end results and it feels a lot more stronger and rigid.
I need to get more fixings for it also, before I refit it.
I’d made a pergola for lady wife and from the offcuts I saw the makings for a pair of ramps……………….just got to fix circular saw now 🤬🤬🤬

Image[/img]Last run out gave me concern!! Top down on way out, rain on way home forced top up!! Strange noise then started, so going through things, not engine, gearbox, tyres etc etc, realised it was hood related??? Kept speed down and noise stopped………. Got home and checked hood and rear window, fabric had detached from glass, all the way between my previous repairs, inside AND out??? What can I do? Couple of photos to show my approach to fixing it. Still need to do internal fix yet.
