The new top model of the Audi TT range.
Even when still a design study, the Audi TT held the power to captivate the public and trade
press alike. And it went on to become one of the most coveted models available. The very
first Audi TT came to be regarded worldwide as the ultimate dream car. The new version of
the Audi TT is in the process of bettering its predecessor’s achievements. And the Audi TTS
infuses the entire model series with even greater allure.
The Audi TTS boasts the credentials of a thoroughbred sports car, with the sportiest design
and the most powerful engine in the Audi TT range. In combination with its forward-looking
technology, the Audi TTS is also notable for its progressiveness, which is the key differentating
feature in the race to claim the leadership of the premium segment. The new top model
in this car line consequently performs an important role in elevating the positioning of the
brand and car line in the direction of prestige and sportiness. Progressiveness, the key differentiating feature among those models vying for leadership of the premium segment, is embodied by advanced technology, high-performance engines and ultra-sporty design on the
Audi TTS.

Powerful engine – The TTS features a 272PS turbo-charged 2.0 FSI engine delivering 350 Nm of torque available from 2,500 – 5,000rpm and is capable of reaching 0-62 mph in 5.2 seconds. This engine is a revised version of that used in S3 with optimised air intake feeding larger intercoolers and a sports exhaust system with reduced air flow restriction.
Audi magnetic ride – TTS features a 10mm lower ride height version of the acclaimed Audi magnetic ride system already available on TT. Here sensors in the car monitor the road conditions and fine-tune the damping effect in milliseconds by varying a magnetic charge which passes through a fluid based shock absorber. The benefits of this standard suspension system are improved road handling, outstanding chassis control and excellent driving comfort.
In the Audi TTS, performance is not about achieving increased engine performance at all
cost. The high road performance of the Audi TTS is accomplished through ultra-efficient
technologies that permit low fuel consumption and minimal pollutant emissions. The superiority
of this concept is also reflected in an exemplary power-to-weight ratio of 5.1 kg/bhp
(Audi TTS Coupé) and 5.4 kg/bhp (Audi TTS Roadster).
Audi has already demonstrated on multiple occasions
what can be achieved by combining FSI®
petrol direct injection and ultra-efficient turbocharged
filling of the combustion chamber. This
alliance has been particularly effective in endurance
racing events (Le Mans, ALMS etc.) The
starting point in developing the new top-end engine
in the two-litre category was an already
highly developed version of the 2.0-litre TFSI
engine. Even in its basic version this power unit
had been voted “Engine of the Year” on three
successive occasions by an international jury
of trade journalists.
TFSI technology combines Audi core skills in
engine manufacturing: direct injection and
turbocharging. Direct injection means more power from less fuel. It enables a higher level
of torque and engine output as well as much
greater efficiency compared to engines with
indirect manifold injection.
This enhances responsiveness and low-end
torque – while at the same time cutting fuel
consumption. The turbocharging produces
high torque across a wide band of engine
speeds (from 2,500 to 5,000 rpm) as well as
a higher specific power output.

Thoroughly reengineered for the Audi TTS.
To achieve the increased power and torque of the
new 2.0-litre TFSI engine that drives the Audi TTS,
a whole array of key engine components were
fundamentally reengineered.
The following technical modifications were made
compared with the engine of the Audi TT 2.0 TFSI
with an output of 147 kW (200 bhp):
-
Engine block: cooled cylinder walls, reinforced
main-bearing pedestal, main-bearing cap
-
Cylinder head: alloy, annular valve seats, camshafts
-
Connecting rods: reinforced
-
Pistons: reinforced ring carrier pistons; piston
pins, ring assembly
-
Injectors: specifically adapted to the Audi TTS
-
Dual-mass flywheel: specifically adapted to
the Audi TTS
-
Charged air cooler: increased efficiency thanks
to all-metal technology
-
Turbocharger: enlarged turbine wheel, spiral,
compressor inlet and compressor wheel, integral
mode in cast steel
To enhance efficiency further compared with the
2.0-litre TFSI that develops 195 kW (265 bhp) in the
Audi S3, the air intake, engine management, injection
system, turbocharger and basic engine
have been additionally optimised and the exhaust
system further derestricted.
The outward impact of the Audi TTS engine is
even more impressive, too: the specially modified
intake and exhaust system lends the engine
sound a particularly powerful, dynamic character.
Sporty range of transmissions
With the combination of six-speed manual gearbox
and quattro® permanent four-wheel drive as
standard, the Audi TTS has a decidedly performance-
oriented drive concept to offer. The efficiency
with which it transfers the high torque
loss-free is particularly remarkable. The sporty
gear spacing and short shift travel permit extraordinarily
precise, quick gear changes. The optional
six-speed S tronic gearbox provides added
sportiness and convenience. Its dual-clutch technology,
which performs gearshifts by means of
steering wheel paddles and keeps loss of traction
to a minimum when the clutch is engaged, makes
a special contribution to these qualities.
Ultra-sporty quattro® four-wheel drive for the Audi TTS
The quattro® four-wheel drive system drive has
been specially matched to the Audi TTS and now
distributes the propulsive power between the
front and rear wheels even more quickly. If necessary,
the power can be distributed continously
variably, with up to 100% being guided to the
front or rear wheels. This translates into a further
improvement in traction and handling characteristics.
The result is that the vehicle can for instance
accelerate out of bends even sooner. The
powertrain that has been uprated for the Audi TTS
also ensures that the 350 Nm of torque are applied
to the road with ruthless efficiency. The driving
stability in all situations is correspondingly
high.
Other advances:
-
In addition to the Audi magnetic ride suspension system and quattro® permanent fourwheel
drive, a special steering system, ESP with Sport mode and new wheels enhance driving fun, road behaviour and active safety in the Audi TTS.
-
The ESP with Sport mode for the Audi TTS isa two-stage system. Compared with the basic
level of ESP, the second pushbutton stageactivates much more sporty ESP functions
that permit controlled sideslip angles. TheESP system permanently monitors the driving situation.
-
The 17-inch brake system used in the Audi TTSexhibits extremely high performance and resilience.
The brakes are equipped with sports brakepads and have a black painted finish and anAudi TTS emblem at the front as visual distinguishingfeatures.
-
A new steering characteristic designed tomatch the suspension has been developed for the Audi TTS. It guarantees excellent steering precision and low susceptibility to road surface excitation even at high speeds.
-
This special dynamic handling package is rounded off by a choice range of wheels, including a new 18-inch wheel of Audi TTS design and an exclusive optional 19-inch cast aluminium wheel from quattro GmbH of 5 parallel-spoke S design.
