This was followed by the base coat and clearcoat, after 48 hours the clearcoat was lightly sanded back. The area was then polished with a course compound and then a fine compound.

What a result! Good work indeed. On my Mk1 it was so bad there wasn't much metal left around the openings it had rusted to badly, so just cleaning and repainting wouldn't have been an option.

Thanks Nick, sometimes the bubbling paintwork looks worse than it actually is and this seems to be the case with my tailgate. Hopefully it will hold up for a good few years. Overall it came out a lot better than I anticipated.

Sometime ago I picked up some 3D printed rear wheel arch spats and a few weeks ago primed and painted them. It was as a result of this that I went ahead and tackled the corrosion around the rear number plate lights due to the colour match being so much better than I had expected.

Brian, I have bought some of the 3D printed spats but the finish is pretty rough. Were yours the same and if so what did you use to fill them. Looks like your car is Avus Silver same as mine so would be interested to know which paint you used. Thanks Ray

Hi Ray, mine were the same, I used some high build primer and rubbed down then applied another coat and rubbed down again. Then the base coat and clearcoat, to be honest it could do with repeating as it’s not completely flat.
I got the paint from “car paint repair” website and it’s actually Glacier Blue (LZ7K).

I recently picked up some new OEM face lift wiper blades from a former TT owner, my TT has the earlier and I believe less effective hook type wiper arms and blades. So I contacted Lee in Blackburn and purchased a set of used face lift wiper arms, which although in pretty good condition I plan to clean up and repaint with some Eastwoods satin extreme chassis black.
