Funny how some things come to be
Always admired the TT but never thought I would own one , so here goes with my story of ownership so far

Before the TT I had a Fiat Seicento Schumacher and a Fiat Cinquecento, the Schumacher was in great condition but the Cinquecento required a lot of welding so I needed a welding set and the one I wanted was £500

So whilst looking for a welding set I happened upon the advert for a TT very local to me and out of curiosity went to have a look, well I was smitten and said I would have it there and then

Sold both Fiats as soon as I returned home and didn’t sleep properly for a couple of nights until I got her home and sat in my garage
The first few evenings after work I just sat in the garage mesmerised by her shape and all the fantastic finishing touches

Well you might wonder what I bought? top of the line V6 or super low mileage one owner car ?
No she was a 02 180 with all the usual faults and horrendous lacquer peel on the bonnet and roof but nothing could detract from the fact she was my TT and here to stay

Three days into ownership I took her out for a spin and maybe quarter of a mile from home put my foot down and there is a great whoosh and I wonder what the heck I have done to her.
Turns out the hose from the N75 to wastegate has blown off with not a hose clamp in sight
At this point I thought it would make good sense to change the timing belt , water pump and tensioner along with giving her a good service
Around about the same time I read about the oil pickup pipe problem so duly removed the sump and was pleasantly surprised to find it spotless
The same couldn’t be said for the fuel filter the debris that came from the tank side was unbelievable

The discs and pads had seen better days so new fitted all round

Now my thoughts turned to the lacquer peel on the roof and bonnet and after a discussion with a friend who has a small business doing bodywork a date was set and I booked a week off work to labour for him

What started as a rubbing down job for me turned into a far bigger job than I anticipated.
The lacquer turned out to be absolutely shot all over the body and I would say 95% of it we just blew off with a airline which I have a video of somewhere

Now the paintwork was complete thoughts turned to the state of the suspension components and at this point I was pretty disappointed with the amount of rust that coated everything and couldn’t believe that a car costing upwards of £20,000 when new didn’t have much protection on the running gear

Well summer came and went with not a great deal being done at her and she only came out a handful of times

Late October last year she developed a idling and rough running issue and when taking her out of the garage the low pressure power steering pipe let go and dumped oil everywhere

At that point I decided to take her off the road and sort out all the jobs I had wanted to do through the summer but hadn’t got round to

So all the suspension was removed along with the front and rear subframes and whatever possible was sent for shot blasting and powder coating

All the suspension bushes replaced with a full kit from Strongflex in Poland after being recommended by another TT owner and being at a very reasonable price

At the same time I replaced
Wheel bearings
Shock absorbers
Drop links
Bottom ball joints
Track rod ends
Calliper seals
Brake hoses

I was determined at this point that she was going to be as good and as reliable as I could possibly make her
