So the story so far...

I was looking for a winter project and it had to be something either considered a ‘classic’ or future classic. I’ve always liked Audi of 80s, 90s and 00s vintage and stumbled upon this car on a certain automotive classifieds website. The car was listed as having a misfire but otherwise being in good condition and, despite its high mileage, looked great on the photos. So on an autumnal day in October 2019 my wife and I took a trip to the dealer and, following a bit of negotiation, a deal was struck. I was now the owner of a TT :D The car was delivered a couple of days later and put into the garage as it was a Sunday night.

The following week I pulled the car out to assess what I’d bought and all was generally well. The carpets were wet through as the car had been on a forecourt at the dealer and victim to the torrential rain we’d been having. There were a few pieces of damaged trim, the radio was missing, the rear tail light cracked, the lower front grill lose and there was this misfire of unknown cause. My TT journey had began!

Misfire cured!

Following advice on the excellent forum I decided to replace the spark plugs and coil packs. The coil packs were sourced for £28 each from A to Z Motor Factors in Stafford. This is an excellent place to go if you you’re in the area, and they also stock the Poorboys range of detailing products - I use Black Hole on my A5 and it comes up like glass without too much effort with the polishing cloth. I plan to use it on the TT when the weather permits.

Aside of a thorough clean inside and out, I’ve not made much progress in the last few weeks. The most recent job was to clean the mouldy hood and waterproof it - I used the Milton, Johnson’s Baby Bath and Fabsil approach recommended on the forum. Before and after...

If the carpets are wet bets are that the drain holes in the A pillars are blocked. May be worth checking.

Hi Darin

Have you any photos of your car with the hard top on? I didn’t realise they were available.

Thanks

Thanks. Might be a silly question but where exactly are the drain holes located?
